Saginaw Valley Rail Trail
The ll-mile Saginaw Valley Rail Trail is one of Michigan's nicest trails - 12 foot wide, paved, smooth, flat, fast and well maintained. Whether you enjoy running, biking, rollerblading, horseback riding, or a leisurely walk with man's best friend, you'll love this trail.
The linear park was the dream of local resident, Jim Garrett, who rode horses on the abandoned rail line in the 1980s and rallied public support for its development. Through a broad coalition of private, public and nonprofit funding, the property was purchased and construction began in 1999. Completed in 2009, the Saginaw Valley Rail Trail was designed, developed and currently owned and maintained by the Saginaw County Parks & Recreation Commission.
The trail offers three well developed access sites. The Van Wormer Road Trailhead is especially nice. We began our journey at Lumberjack Park in St. Charles, where we crossed a beautifully restored rail bridge over the Bad River. In all, the trail crosses seven restored rail bridges over various creeks and rivers, passing by farms and a series of lush wetlands, including the Shiawassee River State Game Area and Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.

Saginaw Township George Olson Pathway

Catch a gorgeous view of the Saginaw River as you walk between several parks on its banks! The Riverwalk cuts through the heart of Saginaw just a few bridge walks from Old Town Saginaw!

Kochville Township Multi-use Path
Newly expanded in Fall of 2021, this trail now stretches 5.5 miles and connects to the Tittabawassee Twp. Path!! Ride or run on a smooth, quiet, paved non-motorized trail through the heart of Kochville Township along an electrical transmission line.

Zilwaukee Pathway
The 2 mile long pathway gives great views of the Zilwaukee River! Jump on at the Zilwaukee Riverfront Park and travel to Venoy Road.

Thomas Trail
Established in 2013, the Thomas Trail is 3.19 miles wandering through Kluck Nursery, open farm fields and dense forest on the northern most end at the North Miller Road. The Thomas Trial connects to the Saginaw Valley Rail Trail system just west of South Miller Road. Thomas Township has a trailhead located along the trail where it crosses Shields Drive.

Tittabawassee Township Path
The Tittabawassee Township Path was originally constructed in 2017. A 2.5 mile 10-foot-wide non-motorized path built by the Michigan Department of Transportation runs south from Burt Watson Chevrolet to the Freeland SportsZone. In 2020, a 2.69 mile long connection was added to the existing path extending the path from the Freeland SportsZone east to connect to the Kochville Township Multi-use Path. Tittabawassee Township seeks to expand the existing pathway north towards Midland County in the coming years with Hayes Park serving as a future trailhead location.
